Are you ready to go Against the Current?

Art Gallery of Windsor and Moment Factory’s collaboration is now on in downtown Windsor!

It is official: the Art Gallery of Windsor (AGW) has launched Against the Current, a collaboration with Moment Factory, a Montreal-based studio specializing in multimedia experiences. Against the Current is an outdoor web-based experience accessible through participants’ portable devices. Through the experience, participants are encouraged to use an interactive online map to move across Downtown Windsor to discover eight locations that feature artwork reproductions from the art gallery’s collection.

The artists who are featured altered the course of art history by pushing against the expectations of their time. Mini-games at each stop reveal the stories of these artists — their passion, imagination and acts of rebellion. Participants will collect unique milestones tied to each artist’s legacy and be invited to visit the AGW for one last surprise. Against the Current will be accessible through the end of 2022 across Downtown Windsor.

“We create engaging ways for people to access and think about art” says Jennifer Matotek, Executive Director of the Art Gallery of Windsor. “With our art reproductions outside in Downtown Windsor, we have created a spark for someone who’s walking down the street, who may not have visited an art gallery recently, or who feels like art isn’t for them. In collaboration with Moment Factory, we are adding innovative layers to our work. As an art gallery for the 21st century, we are using digital tools and gaming to help people see and experience art differently.”
