AWE comes to Amherstburg!

About Richard Peddie
My name is Richard Peddie, the proud owner of the River Bookshop in Amherstburg, Ontario. I grew up in this area and moved away after university, and then one day I discovered the beauty of Amherstburg and Boblo Island, and that brought my wife and I back here. We’ve been here for 14 years now and haven’t regretted that choice at all.
About AWE in Amherstburg
There’s two components to this initiative. One is Look Again! Outside: Amherstburg, which is five reproductions of art pieces that Art Windsor-Essex has in their collection, and we’re placing those around downtown Amherstburg.
The second part of the initiative is a pop-up called Group of Seven: Not Formed in a Day, and that’ll be a pop-up of original sketches and canvases of the Group of Seven that will be shown at the River Bookshop in our event space called Hole in the Wall on the second floor from July 1st to July 10th. And that’s free. It’s open between noon and 5 p.m. every day.
On the Thursday night of that week — July 8th — we are hosting the event In Conversation: Douglas Hunter on A.Y. Jackson and the Group of Seven at Hole in the Wall. Author Douglas Hunter will be discussing his book about A. Y. Jackson and his paintings of World War Two.
And then on Saturday, July 9th, between 1–3 pm, Jennifer Matotek, the Executive Director of Art Windsor-Essex is going to be doing a Q&A at Hole in the Wall. And our sponsor, Cooper’s Hawk, is going to be present, so you can taste some of their wines at the same time. So what a beautiful combination!
The ongoing initiatives of what the Gallery has done in Windsor have always been impressive. But now taking it out — Windsor is 200,000, but the other half of Essex County is another 200,000. So, you know, taking it outside, giving them a sample, I think it’s absolutely a great idea.
So come on down to Amherstburg!
