Our good friends in Amherstburg and River Bookshop have big dreams! They understand how the power of art can transform communities. So, a bunch of community-loving folks got together to boost the Arts scene. Their first move in making Amherstburg an Arts hotspot? The Art Crawl! Their dream? The Art Crawl turns into a weekend Arts Festival with art, music, literature, and more!

The first annual Art Crawl is happening on Saturday, September 9th from 1pm to 4pm. The Gibson Gallery, Art Windsor-Essex, and a group of twenty local businesses known as The Core have teamed up to kickstart this journey.

The Art Crawl is a fully accessible 1 km stroll through downtown Amherstburg. We’ll kick off the event at ‘Art Alley’ behind River Bookshop, where you’ll find awesome murals by DERKZ and David Creed. Meet Indigenous artist Naomi Peters, who will help us acknowledge the land’s history and unveil murals honoring Shawnee Chief Tecumseh.

The crawl then heads west on Murray Street, where you’ll see some heritage restoration in action and meet Gibson Gallery artists showcasing their work.

Next stop is Flow Cafe & Bikes on Dalhousie. Here, Nadja Pelkey from Art Windsor-Essex will guide you through the King’s Navy Yard Park, revealing ‘Look Again! Outside: Amherstburg’, a series of artwork reproductions from AWE’s permanent collection. You’ll also meet gallery artists and members of the Amherstburg Fort Malden Horticultural Society.

Keep going to Richmond Street, where Musicland’s Bethany D’Alimonte performs the best of The Beatles! A few blocks down, you’ll reach the Gibson Gallery, a beautiful 1896 Michigan Central Railroad Station. There, meet all the artists you’ve encountered on your journey, hear live music, and enjoy free refreshments.

Join us in making this first-ever Amherstburg art crawl a success!

This free event will begin at 1 pm and will wrap up just after 4pm. Rain or shine. Questions? Please contact the Gibson Gallery or visit www.riverbookshop.com.
