Getting Comfortable with Discomfort

Change can be hard. It requires discomfort. Doing things differently doesn’t feel natural, but it’s necessary for growth and improvement. On February 16, 2022, at 6 pm, let’s learn how to get comfortable with discomfort, together, and question:

· Why is it important for galleries to facilitate difficult conversations?

· How can an institution hold space for multiple perspectives?

· What can we learn from others who have leaped headfirst into this work — whether or not they wanted or planned to do it?

· What are best practices for creating and hosting difficult conversations?

The AGW believes positive impacts and growth can come from creating conversations, even if the journey is difficult. I am honoured to host a conversation about getting comfortable with discomfort with some of the boldest and brightest cultural workers in North America. Speakers include Dr. Kelli Morgan, Professor of the Practice and the inaugural Director of Curatorial Studies at Tufts University; Rea McNamara, a writer, curator, and public programmer; and Allison Yearwood, Executive Director of Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art.

How can you join this conversation? Become a member of the Art Gallery of Windsor to receive an exclusive invitation. We’ve recently revisited our membership structure to be more inclusive; check it out!

I look forward to seeing you and our other supporters on February 16th.
