Last week, we introduced the first five members of the 2022–2023 AWE Teen Arts Council. The Teen Arts Council is a group of creative youth who will work collaboratively to develop engaging arts opportunities in Windsor-Essex for teens, by teens. Keep reading to meet our next 5 members!

Tatjana Visekruna, grade 11, Riverside Secondary School

Describe yourself in one sentence: I am a curious and observant person who makes very long music playlists and loves to eat food with her friends.

Who is your artistic inspiration and why?: Miles Johnston is an artist whose primarily black and white illustrations and paintings are vivid and full of ambiguity. He depicts really interesting images that are fun to interpret.

What are some of your favourite spaces or places?: In general, I love little bookshops like Biblioasis and coffee shops as well. The cozier, the better.

Norhan El-Gammal, grade 11, Vincent Massey Secondary School

In 1 sentence, why did you want to join the teen arts council?: I joined the teen arts council for three reasons: to be surrounded by cool artists and get inspired by them, to get involved in the community, and to make my school year fun.

What are some of your favourite hobbies?: Some of my favourite hobbies are drawing, water colouring, reading, and watching anime. I like to read novels and manga.

What are some of your favourite spaces or places?: Some of my favourite spaces or places are my room, the outdoors (gardens), and my art class. I can read, sleep, watch anime, and draw in my room. I can enjoy the fresh air and the lovely nature view outside in the gardens. My art class is filled with people who love art, so I like to be there.

Hala Abu Rashid, Grade 12, Vincent Massey Secondary School

Describe yourself in 1 sentence: I am a Caffeine addict with a cringy personality.

In 1 sentence, why did you want to join the teen arts council? To encourage the community to explore their talents.

What are your favourite artistic mediums? I like colouring with gouache paint mostly because you can do cool backgrounds.

Emily Mills, grade 12, Sandwich Secondary School

What are some of your favourite hobbies?: My favourite hobbies include drawing digitally, sketching on paper, and hanging out with my friends and family! ❤️

Describe one thing that you are proud of: I am proud of keeping artistic activities included in my schedule and sharing them with others around me. This both helps me to have a creative escape and helps others to think in a more creative way. 🌈

What are some of your favourite spaces or places?: One of my favourite places to be is in my art room because it’s where I can focus the most on whatever it is that I’m trying to do. Being in a quiet place around things that make you happy is one of the best areas to be in when you need it! ✏️

Amberyne Ahmadzai, grade 12

Describe yourself in 1 sentence: I would describe myself as someone with a strong character, and an empathetic soul.

In 1 sentence, why did you want to join the teen arts council?: I wanted to join the teen arts council because I wanted to be more exposed to culture and art around the city, as well as meet new people and participate in community activities!

Describe one thing that you are proud of: One thing I’m proud of is the self improvement I’ve made since I started high school. I’m proud of how I’ve improved my mindset and reached the goals I’ve set for myself.

We would like to thank Lisa and Brian Schwab for their generous support of the AWE Teen Arts Council!
