Reflection of My AWE Internship

Hello everyone, my name is Alana Pype, and I am a digital content intern at AWE. My experience thus far has been highly positive and an amazing way to learn more about the field I want to enter. For my first Medium article, I will be writing about my experience here at AWE. During my time here, I had the opportunity to both apply my knowledge of the field to real-world scenarios and learn new skills that will serve me well in the future!
Walking into my first day, I was both excited and nervous. I had expectations of what this role would include, such as creating content, assisting with events, and learning about digital marketing. What I didn’t expect was how much I would grow both professionally and personally in such a short amount of time.
Throughout my internship here, I worked on many different projects that increased my understanding of digital content creation and marketing. Some of my responsibilities included creating social media content across multiple platforms, helping with the execution of events, and conducting market research. One of the most rewarding (and one of my personal favourites) projects I’ve worked on was the Friday’s Live: Where the River Bends event, where I coordinated with the volunteers to ensure the event went on smoothly.
As in any internship, I faced certain challenges. One of the biggest ones was learning to push myself out of my comfort zone. During my time here as an intern, there were many instances where I had to push myself, whether it was to conduct interviews or learn new skills in areas that I didn’t have much experience in, such as camerawork. Luckily, the team here at AWE was super supportive, and with their help and feedback, I got to learn a lot, which taught me the importance of adaptability and initiative.
My experience here at AWE has taught me a lot about the field, and I am more sure than ever that this is what I want to do in the future. Moving forward, I hope to use the skills and knowledge I’ve obtained here during my internship. This opportunity has given me the confidence for future roles and to continue growing both professionally and personally.
Reflecting on my experiences here as an intern, I can’t even begin to express how grateful I am for this opportunity! For anyone who is thinking of doing an internship in the future, I would definitely recommend doing it with AWE.
